Meet the Dentists
Dr. Rhonda Friedmann, DMD
Dr. Friedmann grew up in Brookline and earned her DMD degree from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 1983. She offers her patients preventative care and counseling, restorative treatment, and cosmetic rehabilitation.
For 28 years Dr. Friedmann operated a private dental practice in the Kenmore Square area with Dr Robert Kerstein. They offered compassionate and exceptional care to their patients and continue to do so in their new location at Back Bay Dental Care.
Rhonda enjoys a myriad of outdoor activities including alpine and Nordic skiing, SCUBA diving, kayaking, hiking, and snowshoeing. Indoor activities include reading, Sudoku, word games, and painting furniture. She is the proud mother of her son, Ari.
Dr. Charles Sutera, DMD
Dr. Charles Sutera was born in the Boston area. Studying at Gettysburg College, he earned the prestigious Presidential Scholarship each year of attendance. He went on to study dentistry at the Tufts School of Dental Medicine and earn his DMD. After graduating, he practiced general dentistry in Portland, Maine, and then returned to Boston where he spent several years focusing on facial aesthetics.
Dr. Sutera strongly values building a more integrated and holistic knowledge of dentistry by approaching dental health from multiple disciplines. He has completed numerous postgraduate education programs in the fields of dental anesthesiology, smile aesthetics, dental implantology, and oral surgery. He believes a multidisciplinary expertise allows for the highest level of dental treatment, reconstruction, and continued care. Dr. Sutera completed his dental anesthesiology training at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, and the renowned Advanced Anesthesia Seminars program in Los Angeles.
He is board certified in moderate parenteral sedation by the Massachusetts Dental Board, and has completed the coveted Aesthetic Advantage program at New York University, which is recognized as a leader in veneers, smile makeovers, and facial aesthetics training. Furthermore, Dr. Sutera completed his implant training at the Whitecap Surgical Center in Salt Lake City, extensive periodontal training at the GIDE Institute, and has trained in 3rd molar surgery under the tutelage of the esteemed Dr. John Wayland in San Jose, California. He continues to maintain certification in proficiency by the Academy of Laser Dentistry, and is a recognized Invisalign provider. He strives to make treatment a comforting process, encourages patient involvement, and is meticulous in achieving the highest level of results.
Dr. Robert Kerstein, DMD
Dr. Robert B. Kerstein received his DMD degree in 1983, and his Prosthodontic certificate in 1985, both from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. From 1985 – 1998, he maintained an active appointment at Tufts as a clinical professor teaching fixed and removable Prosthodontics in the department of Restorative Dentistry. In 1984, Dr. Kerstein began studying the original T Scan I technology, and has since that time, also studied the T-Scan II, the T-Scan III with Turbo Recording, and presently the T-Scan 8 technology.
Dr. Kerstein has conducted original research regarding the role that occlusion and lengthy disclusion time plays in the etiology of Chronic Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome. His now 30 years of work with the T Scan III Occlusal Analysis System has led to his becoming a leading author and researcher in the field of Computerized Occlusal Analysis. Dr. Kerstein has published forty-five peer reviewed publications that have appeared in the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, the Journal of Craniomandibular and Sleep Practice, Quintessence International, Practical Periodontics and Aesthetic Dentistry, the Journal of Computerized Dentistry, the Compendium of Continuing Education, the Journal of Implant Advanced Clinical Dentistry, Cosmetic Dentistry, and the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Implants. Additionally, Dr. Kerstein has authored four textbook chapters that highlighted the T-Scan computerized occlusal analysis technology.
Dr. Kerstein has lectured both nationally and internationally regarding Computerized Occlusal Analysis, Prosthetic Dentistry, Anterior Guidance, and the relationship between long Disclusion Time, excursive muscle hyperactivity, and Myofascial pain Dysfunction Syndrome. He also maintains a successful private practice in Boston, Massachusetts, that is limited to Prosthodontics, Computerized Occlusal Analysis, and Myofascial Pain Dysfunction.
John Govostes DMD
Dr. Govostes received his Bachelors of Science degree from the University of New Hampshire and then went to attend Tufts University School of Dental Medicine where he received his dental degree (DMD) and then later his specialty training in Periodontology. Dr. Govostes is a Board Certified Peiodontist.
Dr. Govostes limits his clinical practice to the field of Periodontics which focuses on patient education as well as the preservation of teeth through various non-surgical and surgical therapy modalities in the treatment of gum diseases (periodontitis), as well as implant dentistry and the treatment of other oral pathologic conditions associated with the mouth. The various services offered but not limited to, are the: reduction of gingival pocketing, cosmetic correction of recession and reconstruction with various gum grafting techniques, removal of hopeless teeth, replacement of missing or hopeless teeth with dental implants, as well the augmentation of bone which is often times needed for future dental implant placement.
Dr. Govostes is a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, the Massachusetts Society of Periodontics, the Massachusetts Dental society, as well as a member of Delta Sigma Delta organization which is an International Dental Fraternity. Dr. Govostes has served the public by working in community dental clinics in Colorado as well as volunteering for Dental missions to Quito, Ecuador where he treated the underprivileged community. He also serves as a guest lecturer at the Yankee Dental Convention in Boston MA. Dr. Govostes concerns himself with his patient’s comfort, relaxation, and education as well as the quality of care he provides.
